Recycled Christmas Card Crafts

Before you toss those beautiful Christmas cards that you have been
receiving, consider recycling them into a craft project. If you have
grandchildren or nieces or nephews, one of these ideas may be a
wonderful activity to do together! Keep it in mind for next year.
You'll know where to find the ideas if you keep reading me! I'll remind
you next year in time for the holidays--say October!

Are You Looking Forward To Checking Your Mailbox Today?

Do you send Christmas cards? I bet even if you don't, you still enjoy receiving
them. For many, it is the only time of the year that you hear from friends, or
maybe even family, although I hope not. What a pleasant surprise it is to receive
a greeting from someone that you have not heard from in years! Maybe they are
going to be n town soon and want to get together! There's nothing like
reconnecting with an old friend!

I made a few cards this year to send to out-of-town folks and need to still make a
few more. I'd better get busy so I can clean up this paper mess on my kitchen
table--time is running out!

The card base is glossy black so the insde is
white and I will not have to line it.
The paper was cut 4-1/4  x  11 folded in half.

The Cuttlebug folder is Snowflakes embossed
on a shimmery white--4-1/4  x 3-1/4.
It was lined with a cranberry paper cut 1/2 inch wider.

The vertical banner is made with cranberry 1-1/4 inch wide
and glossy silver 1-3/4 inch wide.
I put the two ends together and used a square punch
to create the V-shape end.
The strips were plenty long, so then I cut them to the length needed.

The Provocraft snowflake dye cut is made with the same
shimmery white paper and has a silver
sticker in the middle.
I wanted to use a flat embellishment so I
would not have to put on extra postage.
Our post office is pretty particular about that!

These next two handmade cards are ones that I
received from friends this week.

Aren't they lovely?

This is a Tin Holtz dye cut with beautiful detail.
The two embellishments
really are wonderful added touches.
The dove is all glittery--I'm not sure what technique Pam used
to achieve the pretty look.

I recognize the Stampin' Up deer that Vicki embossed and added
a pearl to his antlers.
That has always been one of my favorite Christmas stamps!

I think the designer paper used in the two corners is such a
clever idea!
I'm going to remember that for sure!

Are you looking forward to checking your mailbox today?

Book Page Scalloped Tree

I had some scraps from a book page snowman that I hope to show you as
soon as I figure out his hat. But in the meantime I played with the scraps
one night in front of the TV and came up with this scalloped Christmas
tree.

The styrofoam form was one I found at the 99 Cent Store,
so I figured why not start with that. It was cheaper than
buying one at the craft store, and it already had the
star on top!

I sponged the edges of the scallops with green ink
and starting at the bottom, pinned them around the
form using straight pins. The first row hangs down
below the bottom edge.

When I got to the top. I had to work around the star,
but eventually got it looking pretty neat.

Then I decided to add some ecru lace that I had on hand.
I pinned that in placed with pearl pins that I colored red
with a red copic marker.

A glass candle holder, from a different dollar store, serves
as the tree base.

I shared this idea at these link parties this week:

A Christmas Invitation

A while back I mentioned that I was working on a Christmas invitation
for one of my friends. Here it is...

I was browsing through the gallery over at
Splitcoaststampers.com as I often do when I
found a card made by Lynn Pratt.

Although her door template was the entire
front of her card, I chose to frame it
on a black card base.

I used half of a jewelry tag for the door plate
and colored it with a gold Marvy metallic marker.
The door knob is a gold rhinestone"--love those
packets from the dollar bins at Michaels!

The wreath is made with a 3/4" circle punch FIRST--then
punch the SU scalloped punch around it--NOT THE OTHER
WAY AROUND!

More embellishments and there you have it.

The inside is pretty straight forward with
the computer-generated information backed
with a pretty scrapbook paper peeking out behind the white paper.

Check out Lynn's blog, Stamp-n-Design,
for more great templates and ideas!

A Masculine Card

I actually made a card yesterday! A very simple one, but an appropriate
one for our son-in-law. He and our daughter live very simply and love
the outdoors--they are both river guides in the Grand Canyon.

I apologize for the poor-quality picture. I was in a hurry to get it in the
mail.

I computer-generated the sentiment inside:

You
stand out
among
all the
rest!

Happy Birthday!

You can't see it, but I used dazzling diamonds
on the green tree and for the snow.

Jon truly does have a sparkling personality!
